I have a 4 year old Large Male Congo Africa grey Parrot... Born April 7th, 2004. I got him when he was only a 6 months old baby. He´s fantastic talker and has many phrases he likes to say and loves to whistle. When he feels ignored & wants attention he will make many different sounds... like a phone ringing, meows, peeps, chirps, etc...
African grey´s are very smart & he can become as smart as a 5 year old child. He needs physical & mental interaction for at least an hour every day. He needs a shower at least 3 times a week or he will get dusty. He loves to take his shower in the bath tub not the kitchen sink. He needs a healthy diet of table food, pellets, fresh fruits & veggies. You can not feed parrots seeds; that is like giving your child candy for every meal. Seeds are ok for treats but not his diet.
He will make a great companion for someone that is experienced and is firmly in control. He is NOT for those who have never owned a large parrot. He is NOT for a family with small children, unless you are experienced with large parrots. Yes, he will bite when he is cranky & not in the mood to be bothered. However, he can be sweet when he wants to be. He is a typical grey & gets freaked out really easily by quick motions, chaos, big strange objects coming too quickly at him, sudden changes, etc...
